Titanic's length was equal to four 747's.

Her maiden voyage of March 20th was delayed to April 10th due to repairs needed on her sister, The Olympic. Olympic was rammed by a naval vessel, The Hawke, creating an enormous hole in her hull. The inquiry determined that Olympic's moving hull had created a suction effect which drew the Hawke helplessly toward her.

Since White Star did not believe in old-fashioned and superstitious practices Titanic was never christened.

She attained a speed slightly over 21 knots briefly during her sea trials.

The Titanic held 16 lifeboats. 14 were full-sized boats, each with a capacity of 65 people, and two were smaller emergency boats, each with a capacity of 40 people. There were also four 47-person collapsible Engelhardt boats - semi-rafts with wooden hulls and collapsible canvas sides - strapped to the deck and the roof of the officer's quarters. In total Titanic had 20 lifeboats with space for 1178 people, 22% more than required by law.

Titanic's first passengers boarded on Wednesday April 10, 1912.

They were due to arrive in New York on Wednesday April 17th.

There was a very close call as she left port and almost collided with the New Yorker. As Titanic passed, she raised the water-level around her, causing the New Yorker to rise and then abruptly drop, simultaneously snapping all six ropes securing the smaller ship. Her stern began to swing rapidly towards Titanic.  The tug captain later said the New Yorker was four feet from Titanic when she was stopped.

The black and white picture is the last photograph taken of The Titanic as she left her last port at 1:30 PM on Thursday April 11th. The color picture is from the movie.
